Scoresmith privacy policy
Last updated 28 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Zoey Ventures, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with Scoresmith(the “App”), a board-game score keeping app published for iOS and Android. Our website is covered separately by the Zoey Ventures privacy policy.
The short version
- The App has no accounts and no backend. Everything you enter — game scores, player names, saved groups, and settings — is stored only on your own device, and in backups you control. We do not have a server that receives, stores, or can see that information.
- The App uses a third-party service, Sentry, to collect anonymous crash and performance diagnostics so we can find and fix bugs. This is configured to exclude personally identifying information by default.
- The App checks whether your version is out of date by requesting a small file from our website. That request sends nothing about you or your device, and the App keeps working offline if it fails.
- The App also downloads its own updates from Expo, our app-delivery provider. Those requests identify the app build, not you; Expo assigns each installation an anonymous id that is not tied to your name, account, or anything you enter in the App.
- If you send us feedback from the App, we receive what you type in that form — plus your email address, only if you choose to give one — by email. Nothing else from the App goes with it.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Data stored on your device
Scoresmith keeps all of your content — active and saved game sessions, player names, reusable player groups, scores, and app settings — in local storage on your device. This data never leaves your device to reach us, because the App has no backend server and no login. If you uninstall the App, or clear its data, that information is deleted from the device.
Backups
Your App content is included in your device’s own backup — iCloud or a computer backup on iPhone, your Google account backup on Android — if you have that turned on. That is what lets a new or restored phone bring your games back. Those backups are stored by Apple or Google in your account, under their privacy policies; we cannot see or access them.
You can also export a backup filefrom the App’s Settings, and choose where it goes — for example Files, Google Drive, or an email to yourself. The file contains your games, player names, groups, history, and settings. It goes only where you send it — never to us — and restoring it replaces the content on the device you restore it to.
Crash and performance diagnostics (Sentry)
To keep the App stable, we use Sentry (sentry.io) to collect diagnostic information automatically when the App runs. Sentry acts as our data processor. Specifically:
- When it runs: Diagnostics are collected only in the released (production) version of the App. They are disabled in development builds.
- What is collected: Error and crash reports (including stack traces and technical breadcrumbs of what the App was doing), basic performance and app-startup timing, and technical device context such as device model, operating-system version, and App version.
- Session Replay: Sentry may record a masked playback of the on-screen activity around a crash, or for a small sample of sessions, so we can reproduce problems. By default this masks text and images, so it is intended to capture how the interface behaved — not the specific content you typed.
- What is not collected: We have configured Sentry so that it does not attach personally identifying information such as your IP address, precise user identity, or cookies to these reports (
sendDefaultPiiis disabled).
Sentry processes this data on our behalf, on servers in the United States. You can read how Sentry handles data in the Sentry Privacy Policy and its documentation on data collected.
Feedback
If you choose to send us feedback from the App’s Settings — for example, to suggest a game — the App sends the contents of that form to our website, which forwards it to us by email. That is:
- the kind of feedback (a game suggestion, a problem, or something else), the game you name, and your message;
- your email address, only if you choose to give one, so we can reply;
- the App version and your device’s operating-system version, so we can tell which build a problem report is about.
Nothing else is included — not your scores, player names, groups, history, or settings. Feedback is sent only when you press Send, and we use it only to read it, reply if you gave us an address, and decide what to build next. Our email provider, Resend (resend.com), delivers it to us on our behalf, on servers in the United States; you can read how it handles data in the Resend Privacy Policy. As with any web request, our website host records standard technical server logs, which are covered by the Zoey Ventures privacy policy.
Update checks
The App periodically requests a small file from our website to find out whether your installed version is still supported, so we can tell you when an update is required. This request sends no personal information — it asks for a fixed file and does not include your scores, player names, settings, or any identifier for you or your device. Nothing from the response is stored. As with any web request, our website host records standard technical server logs, which are covered by the Zoey Ventures privacy policy. If the request fails, or you are offline, the App simply carries on working normally.
App updates (Expo)
Separately from the check above, the App downloads its own updates from Expo (expo.dev), the service we use to deliver App improvements without waiting for a store release. When the App starts, or when you return to it after a long time away, it asks Expo whether a newer version of the App’s code is available and downloads it if so.
These requests describe the App, not you: which build you are running and which release channel it follows. Expo assigns each installation an anonymous identifier so it can tell installations apart when serving updates, and its servers record the usual technical request logs, including IP address. That identifier is not linked to your name or any account, is not used for advertising or tracking, and carries nothing you enter in the App — your scores, players, groups, and settings are never sent to Expo or to us. You can read how Expo handles this in the Expo Privacy Policy.
If these requests fail, or you are offline, the App carries on working normally with the version already installed.
App stores
You download the App through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those stores are operated by Apple and Google, who collect their own information — such as download, purchase, and crash statistics — under their own privacy policies. We may see aggregate, de-identified statistics from them, but we do not receive your individual store account details from this.
Children
The App is a general-audience score keeping tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because game content stays on the device and diagnostics are configured to exclude identifying information, we do not build user profiles.
How long we retain your data
- App content lives on your device for as long as you keep it there; uninstalling or clearing the App removes it from the device. Copies in your device backups, or in backup files you exported, are kept until you delete them.
- Crash and diagnostic datain Sentry is retained according to Sentry’s default retention periods — generally up to 90 days for most event data — and then deleted.
- Feedback you send is kept in our email for as long as it is useful — to reply to you, and to keep track of the games players have asked for — and deleted sooner if you ask.
What rights you have over your data
Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA — you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
- To delete the App’s content, uninstall the App or clear its data on your device, and delete any backup files you exported. To remove it from your device backups too, manage those in your iCloud or Google account settings. We cannot access any of these, so only you can.
- For diagnostic data held in Sentry, or any feedback you sent us, contact us and we will delete it where we are able, except where we are obliged to keep it for legal, security, or administrative reasons.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
Who we share your data with
We share data only with the service providers described above — principally Sentry (crash and performance diagnostics), Expo (App update delivery), Resend (delivering feedback you send us by email), and the Apple App Store and Google Play (distribution) — each acting under its own privacy terms. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.
Where your data is sent
Diagnostic data collected by the App may be processed on Sentry’s servers in the United States, and feedback you send is delivered through Resend’s servers in the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
